In 2019 the Alabuga Basalt Technology Center was approved along with other new companies and obtained the status of Alabuga SEZ resident. A continuous basalt fiber production facility will be deployed on the plot of 22.5 hectares.
Promtorg LLC and Ecoprom LLC, co-founders of the new project, intend to invest 2.7 billion rubles ($41 K) of own funds. The plant project capacity is expected to reach 15 thousand tons / year. The start of production is scheduled for the 3rd quarter of 2020.
I believe this is a disruptive technology. The material we produce is the 21st century material. These products will be used in composite materials, and in almost all industries. One of our competitive advantages is Russia’s raw materials used in the process.
– said Vladimir Boyko, the Chief Structural Engineer for the Alabuga SEZ in the interview.
Alabuga SEZ was founded in 2006. By 2019 it had become the largest and the most successful special economic zone of industrial-production type in Russia. In 2012 Rockwool, a global leader in flame-retardant insulation based on stone wool opened a production facility in Tatarstan. And in 2018, the production of Grodan substrates started there.
China is getting involved in the development of basalt technologies. For instance, during the Yantai Marine Forum, it was decided to establish an Industrial Park of Basalt Fiber Innovative Materials.
